Places to visit near Chatel in summer

Local Lakes

There are quite a few lakes around Chatel - most of which are suitable for swimming in, and all of which are beautiful.

About 20 minutes drive away, there is also Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) which is a perfect stop for a day spent swimming, sunbathing or even sailing, waterskiing and wakeboarding.

Annecy is also within driving distance (just over one hour) with its historic old town and "the cleanest lake in Europe".

Local Glaciers

Chamonix, and the famous "Mer de Glace" glacier are just over an hours drive away from Chatel and are well worth a visit.

It is possible to take the Aigle du Midi cable car up to 3800 m, or take the train up to the glacier. From both locations, the views are absolutely spectacular!

Thermal baths

Just over the border in Switzerland, about a 30 minute drive from Chatel, you can find the thermal baths of Lavey. Natural hot springs are pumped into a large outdoor pool area with whirlpools, jacuzzis, massage jets and bubble beds.

There is also a Nordic Pavilion with saunas and plunge pool, and L'Espace Oriental with hammam and Turkish baths.

Medieval villages or chateaux

There are some beautiful chateaux not far from Chatel, as well as the medieval lakeside village of Yvoire on the banks of Lac Leman.
