Mountain Biking in the Portes du Soleil

Mountain Biking in Chatel, France

The Portes du Soleil is widely regarded as being a mecca for mountain biking. Chatel, at the heart of this giant area, is well placed as a starting point for exploring the entire region.

24 cable cars and chairlifts give unrestricted access to over 650 kms of tracks and paths. There are 10 dedicated mountain bike areas and 5 bike parks.

In the Portes du Soleil, there is riding to suit everyone, regardless of ability - from easy trails to fast technical descents. The lifts open from the end of June through to the beginning of September allowing riders to access the massive network of tracks with minimal uphill slog.

Super Chatel has two dedicated downhill tracks - the "Premium" and the "Dange H".

Over at Pre La Joux, the fantastic Mountain Bike Park just keeps on getting better and better. This is a special area dedicated to mountain biking fanatics which is reached via the Pierre Longue and/or Rochassons chairlifts.

It offers13 mountain biking trails (12 of which are downhill runs) at all difficulty levels and there are several fun areas for new school riding disciplines. You'll find 5 North-Shore-style zones, 1 four-cross course, a Mountain Style Face (freeride/freestyle area), a kid's X, a drop zone with foam pit, a wall ride, a quarter, a set up - set down, and more....
