Snow Update - Feb 2010

08-Feb-10

As we enter the busy school holiday period, conditions in the Portes du Soleil are excellent. Chatel has 125 cm of snow at the base, and Avoriaz has 240 cm at the top!
Great piste & off piste skiing conditions to be found everywhere.
We still have a bit of availability for March so contact us if [...]

Snow conditions - update

16-Dec-09

We woke to snow falling today which is always nice. Yesterday I took a spin around Pre La Joux, Linderets and Avoriaz, and pistes conditions were pretty good for the time of year. The off pistes is a bit barren in places, so don’t venture into it on your new planks! However, the piste skiing [...]

The first nip of winter

14-Oct-09

We haven’t posted here for a while - mostly because we have been so busy taking bookings for next winter. However, we thought you’d want to know that we have had the first nip of winter, with light snow on the mountains and sub zero temperatures in the village.
Good news for skiers! Not so good [...]

Winter returns to Chatel

23-Mar-09

It was just starting to feel as though spring and really got one over on winter, but winter is fighting back! Temperatures are dropping this evening, and there is 60 cm of snow forecast over the next two days, with more falling towards the end of the week.
We already have plenty of snow to last [...]

The snow is coming…

15-Nov-08

It looks like this week and next week (17th November onwards) could herald the first big snowfalls of the season. There is a lot of unsettled weather forecast coupled with very cold temperatures. A perfect way to start the season.
I will report back when the snow starts falling heavily!

Summer arrived quickly

14-May-08

Although there is still a lot of snow on the north facing slopes, since the lifts shut at the end of April, the weather has been gorgeous, sunny & hot.
The bike is out and more trails are losing their snow cover on a daily basis…

The season is still superb

16-Apr-08

Sunshine, powder, empty slopes…this is what skiing is all about. The conditions are excellent and the village is empty!

Overdue update

09-Apr-08

Whoops - I just realised it is nearly 2 months since I updated the blog. Since my last post, basically it has snowed, and snowed, and snowed, and snowed!
The end of Feb was sunny and springlike. In contrast, March & April (to date) have been cold and snowy. We have had so many excellent powder [...]

Snow update…

22-Feb-08

Well there hasn’t really been much to report for the last couple of weeks. Cold clear sunny days and excellent skiing. The snow has stayed in great condition and a short tour on Wednesday gave us some nice powder for a few turns….
The next week looks positively spring like - really warm temperatures and sunny [...]

The Portes du Soleil has some of the best snow in the Alps…

13-Dec-07

The sun is out and the mountains are very white! Not only is this one of the best starts to the season in decades, but once again the Portes du Soleil has some of the best snow in the Alps.
As per normal, Chatel (70/160) has more snow than;
La Plagne (115/135cm)
Alpe d’Huez (120/120cm)
Val d’Isere (115/150cm)
Tignes (103/132cm)
